This is a simple report showing you how to automate twitter and take advantage of its community building resources.

I am going to show you a couple of simple tactics that will make using twitter easier and lead to more traffic generated to your websites.

I am assuming you know what twitter is since you are here – but in case you don’t it is a simple but powerful mini-blogging platform – a social networking system – where you post a one sentence blurb on what you are up to.

You might say – “I am making a website – take a look”

“It’s my birthday! Here’s a gift”

Anything relevant to you … You follow people and they in turn follow you. It’s simple, easy and MUCH more powerful than it sounds.

Step One

If you don’t have an account with twitter than go here right now to get one:

Step Two

Once you have an account you are going to set up a way to automatically respond to and follow anyone who follows you. When anyone follows you it is a great opportunity to send them a DIRECT MESSAGE (or a DM as it is called) saying thanks for following and to present them with a link to your website or blog.

The benefits of this should be obvious!

Here is how you will automate this direct message.

Go to http://tweetlater.com sign up and use their automatic functions. It’s easy and quick. They provide several options – just make sure you set up the automatic follow and respond functions. Don’t forget to finish up by setting a rule in your email account! Now your “thank you for following me “message will all be done automatically. There are more benefits to http://tweetlater.com that you will see – such as you can email all your friends at once – very useful…

Step Three

Now we want to set up an automatic system so that every time you post on your blog a Tweet is sent to Twitter (whoever came up with these names had birds on the brain…)

Here’s how to do that.

Go to Twitterfeed http://twitterfeed.com and sign up using your OpenId – what is that you ask? It is an id that can be used across many platforms and most likely you have one already but don’t know it. In any case you can sign up for an OpenId right there on the twitter feed home page.

Login to Twitterfeed with this OpenId and fill out the form telling them your twitter user name (mine is philgene for example). This is all very easy and actually simpler to do than to describe!

They will also need to know the URL of your Blog’s feed – mine is http://rapidresponsebot.com/blog/feed/ for example.

AND that’s it – now when you post to your blog it will get posted on twitter with a link to the post!

Pretty cool and a great use of Twitter for traffic generation or whatever social reason you might have.

These two simple little automation task can result in HUGE returns. Please don’t toss this away in the lost pile! Go do it right now. There are no costs anywhere and the only person gaining is you!

4. Participate in giveaway events. This is an excellent opportunity to leverage the marketing efforts of everyone involved in these events. Make sure people have to visit your landing page and signup to get your product.

5. Locate marketers in your niche who have a sizeable list. Strike up a deal to swap promotions for your squeeze pages. This method will get you loads of traffic and build a relationship that will benefit both of you for years to come.

6. Invite your current subscribers to promote your free offer for a small financial return per subscriber they send your way. Think of it as the price of advertising, which would cost you far more.

7. Use PPC to drive traffic to your opt-in form quickly. Your ad will work best if it promises a benefit and has an element of curiosity.

8. Utilize paid to click services to build your list. If your giveaway is relevant and in demand, you will add subscribers quickly.

9. When someone buys from you, send them directly to an opt-in form where they can register for upgrades or just to complete their order. This works well, since they have already agreed to buy from you and will readily fill in the form.

10. Begin a viral marketing campaign. Create a product with your squeeze page links inside and encourage people to pass it around. Offer it to your list members, have your friends and business associates pass it on to their list members, and post it on free book sites.

These 10 list building methods work extremely well. Use them all or combine your favorites and you will grow a quality list quickly.

Mind-Blowing Awesome Traffic

I want to talk a bit about what optimizing your traffic means. I don’t mean getting more traffic to your site. I mean the hard work of creating an optimized sales system so that your traffic is providing you with a solid income. In other words your sales conversion process.

Nobody likes to do it – why? -because it’s kinda like work but just sending more traffic – although great – is never the solution to your conversion issues. The key is taking a hard look at your sales process and understanding what can be done to improve it. This means what happens the moment your traffic arrives at your website. Let’s get it out of the way right now -YOU MUST GET YOUR TRAFFICS EMAIL ADDRESS! After that you can give away stuff to your traffic – built relationships with them and show them you are a reliable person.

You get the email of your traffic by offering something free that is of value. Now everybody says they hate popups but there area  lot of new technologies – like slide ups from the bottom of your page  – that people kinda think are neat. These newer pop ups get huge conversion rates simple because they attract the attention and are asking your traffic to take an active role rather than a passive “just browsing” role.

Ok you have the email – now what? Of course you have captured it with your autoresponder system – right? I hope so! The rule of thumb is 7 emails before someone buys – now I don’t really know if this is true or not but it sure is a fact that having a set of autoresponder messages sent out at regular intervals is going to be the bread and butter of your business. Give something away to your customers in your autoresponder series. Don’t be afraid to also just say you have something useful for sale along with it. Make sure your selling pertinent items – things that relate to why your customers are interested in your newsletter.

Be personal – forget trying to come off like a corporation – be a person they can relate to – be fast – be friendly and dismiss refunders and negative comments. Give refunds happily and quickly and just move on – it ‘s part of any business.

The step coming up everyone hates – me too – but without it you are flying blind – that step is Track It All – it’s boring but it is the lifeblood of your business. Use link trackers in your autoresponder emails – you’ll see how many times they get clicked. Use conversion tracking codes – basically just a code that shows the number of people who arrive and what percent go through to the final purchasing of your products. You can google software for it – or use Google Analytics for that matter…

These stats are going to be the basis for optimizing your sales process over time -so they are important to collect.

You can see that the long-tail keyword is far more specific and focused than the shorter keyword. But is it worth going after something that specific? There can't be that many people searching for it. Exactly.

With long-tail keywords, it's much easier to get your target market's attention because there's less competition. Most of your competitors aren't concentrating on these keywords, so they are, and always will be, your golden eggs.

The numbers tell the story. For "ski vacation" you'll get results in the tens or hundreds of millions. But for a more specific, long-tail keyword you're only competing with a couple of thousand. That means a lot fewer websites you'll have to climb past to get to the top spot in the search results.

But long-tail keywords sell for another reason: People tend to use long-tail keywords for searches when they're getting close to making a purchase.

A person's buying cycle can be broken down into three phases: interest, research and purchase. As people get closer to the purchase phase, they tend to use longer, more specific keywords in their searches. This means the traffic you get from your long-tail keywords is far more likely to lead to a purchase than the traffic resulting from your short keywords.

Long-tail keywords will bring highly targeted traffic to your site when you use them in pay-per-click ads or as anchors in external links back to your site from your articles, blog entries and any social networking you do online. But you can't just leave them hanging there. Someone who uses a long-tail keyword is looking for very specific information. If they follow a link they think is relevant, only to discover that it leads to a vaguely, sort-of-related page, they'll leave.

Once they get to your site, they need to know immediately that they've found exactly what they were looking for. Here are the top three ways to realize that goal:

1. Create a landing page for each long-tail keyword cluster. Keep your landing pages focused on one problem statement. Use one to three very similar, long-tail keywords that address that problem; include synonyms.

For instance, along with "honeymoon ski vacation aspen colorado december 2009," you'd include a couple of other honeymoon- and Colorado-related keywords, but not keywords about spring skiing or family ski vacations.

Search engine spiders–particularly Googlebot–love websites with lots of pages, so with your new set of landing pages you'll be able to please both human and robot readers.

2. Optimize your landing pages for each long-tail keyword cluster. Be sure to use the keywords you've optimized in the important places in your code: page title, meta description, headers and image alt text.

Your title tags are particularly important here. In your keyword research tool, look for the top three 24-hour results for each cluster. Use those in your title tags (up to 100 characters).

Make sure the phrases also appear naturally in the content of the page at least three or four times, along with synonyms. Watch for duplicate content, too. Most of the content on each page should be unique. The goal here is to get to the top spot in natural search results.

3. Mix your long-tail keywords with short keywords. Short keywords play an important role, too. Short keywords drive a high volume of less-focused traffic to your website, providing an opportunity for you to ask for your visitors' e-mail addresses.

Short keywords are also really good for establishing your business as a brand because people who recognize your business name or URL from the early phase of the buying cycle are more likely to click on it later, when they're getting ready to buy. It's not the priority to get the top ranking for your short keywords (although it's great if you can do it), but the closer you can get to the top, the better.

Long-tail keywords are ideal for connecting with your niche market, they're easier to rank than short-tail keywords and they launch you into a customer's buying cycle at exactly the right time.

I wanted to send out a couple of emails talking about leads. Since I own www.rapidresponsebot.com (an autoresponder service:) I see a LOT of leads and also where they come from and how well they convert.

I can tell you right now the lists where you buy or are given 30,000 leads are just a waste of time. Frequently I see this – they get imported into your autoresponder and if your lucky you’ll get 5 leads from them. What’s more realistic is you’ll get your account banned due to spam complaints. This is probably the only reason I have to suspend accounts – something I hate to do.

The reason is most of these leads are ordinary folks who filled out some survey asking if they’d like to work on the web etc. They weren’t expecting to get bombed with thousands of emails about stuff they have no interest in or don’t understand (such as internet marketing).

So you want leads that are targeted and have a sense of why they are giving you their email address. Mostly they will be just like you and me – internet marketers looking to build their own lists – and that is fine. You want people on your list who understand that you are offering them products and services that will help them with their business.
